A validation study of a continuous automatic measurement of the mechanical power in ARDS patients.
The mechanical power (MP) is the energy delivered into the respiratory system over time. It can be computed as a direct measurement of the inspiratory area of the airway pressure and volume loop during the respiratory cycle or calculated by "power equations". The absence of a bedside computation limited its widespread use. Recently, it has been developed an automatic monitoring system inside of a mechanical ventilator.

ReviewChest imaging in patients with acute respiratory failure because of coronavirus disease 2019.
This review aims to explore the different imaging modalities, such as chest radiography (CXR), computed tomography (CT), ultrasound, PET/CT scan, and MRI to describe the main features for the evaluation of the chest in COVID-19 patients with ARDS. ⋯ CT is the technique with higher sensitivity and definition for studying chest in COVID-19 patients. LUS or bedside CXR are critical in patients requiring close and repeated monitoring. Moreover, LUS and CXR reduce the radiation burden and the risk of infection compared with CT. PET/CT and MRI, especially in ARDS patients, are not usually used for diagnostic or follow-up purposes.

ReviewNoninvasive respiratory support for acute respiratory failure due to COVID-19.
Noninvasive respiratory support has been widely applied during the COVID-19 pandemic. We provide a narrative review on the benefits and possible harms of noninvasive respiratory support for COVID-19 respiratory failure. ⋯ Noninvasive respiratory support and awake prone position are tools possibly capable of averting endotracheal intubation in COVID-19 patients; carefully monitoring during any treatment is warranted to avoid delays in endotracheal intubation, especially in patients with PaO2/FiO2 < 200 mmHg.

Meta AnalysisHigher PEEP versus lower PEEP strategies for patients in ICU without acute respiratory distress syndrome: A systematic review and meta-analysis.
To evaluate the effects of high and low levels of PEEP on ICU patients without ARDS. ⋯ Although ventilation with high PEEP in ICU patients without ARDS may not reduce in-hospital mortality, the decreased incidences of ARDS and hypoxemia and the improvement in PaO2/FIO2 were found in the high PEEP arm.

Lower Driving Pressure and Neuromuscular Blocker Use Are Associated With Decreased Mortality in Patients With COVID-19 ARDS.
The impact of mechanical ventilation parameters and management on outcomes of patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) ARDS is unclear. ⋯ In subjects with COVID-19 ARDS receiving mechanical ventilation, ΔP during the first 4 d of mechanical ventilation was independently associated with mortality. The short-term use of NMB facilitated lung-protective ventilation and was independently associated with decreased mortality.
