Sepsis-induced cardiomyopathy ( SIC ) is a distinct form of myocardial injury that disrupts tissue perfusion and stands as the significant cause of mortality among sepsis patients. Currently, effective preventive or treatment strategies for SIC are lacking. YiQiFuMai injection (YQFM), composed of Panax ginseng C. ⋯ Moreover, GPX4 inhibitor could abolish the effects above. In summary, the study highlights the regulatory effect of YQFM in mitigating myocardial injury. It probably achieves this ameliorative effect by enhancing xCT/GPX4 axis and further reducing ferroptosis.

Strain on Scarce Intensive Care Beds Drives Reduced Patient Volumes, Patient Selection, and Worse Outcome: A National Cohort Study.
Strain on ICUs during the COVID-19 pandemic required stringent triage at the ICU to distribute resources appropriately. This could have resulted in reduced patient volumes, patient selection, and worse outcome of non-COVID-19 patients, especially during the pandemic peaks when the strain on ICUs was extreme. We analyzed this potential impact on the non-COVID-19 patients. ⋯ In non-COVID-19 patients the strain on healthcare has driven lower patient volume, selection of fewer comorbid patients who required more intensive support, and a modest increase in the case-mix adjusted mortality.

The prognostic evaluation of the septic patient has recently been enriched by some predictive indices such as albumin concentration, lactate/albumin ratio (LAR) and C-reactive protein/albumin ratio (CAR). The performance of these indices has been evaluated in septic patients in intensive care, but until now their performance in infected patients in the Emergency Department (ED) has not been evaluated. ⋯ All three indices had a good discriminatory ability for the risk of short-term death in patients with infection, indicating their promising use in the ED as well as in the ICU. Further studies are needed to confirm the better performance of albumin compared to LAR and CAR.

In patients with new-onset heart failure (HF), coronary artery disease (CAD) testing remains underutilized. Whether widespread CAD testing in patients with new-onset HF leads to improved outcomes remains to be determined. ⋯ In a contemporary and diverse cohort of patients hospitalized with new-onset HFrEF, CAD testing within 90 days of hospitalization was associated with a lower risk of HF readmission or all-cause mortality. Testing within 90 days after discharge was not associated with worse outcomes.

Physical Activity and Cause-Specific Cardiovascular Mortality Among People With and Without Cardiovascular Disease: A Cohort Study of 0.6 Million US Adults.
To assess the association of physical activity (PA) with cause-specific cardiovascular disease (CVD) mortality among people with preexisting CVD and to analyze the relationship of PA with CVD-related mortality in people without CVD as well as the association of PA with nonspecific CVD mortality in both populations. ⋯ Physical activity was strongly associated with lower risk of CVD-, CHD-, and stroke-related mortality among people with a history of these specific diseases. Health care professionals should emphasize the importance of a physically active lifestyle in patients with CVD.
