The French Armed Forces are deployed in French Guiana (FG) to protect national territory and ensure the security of strategically important sites. Military health support (MHS) provides medical support for missions in this tropical environment, which is hazardous and where confrontations are possible. MHS must organize tactical and strategic evacuations (Strat-AEs), so that an optimal level of care can be delivered. Overall, Strat-AE activity has been described previously but no specific data related to FG has been reported. The main objective of this study was to provide an overview of military Strat-AEs from FG. ⋯ The particularity of FG is a local health care system that provided initial care before the evacuation. To reduce the number of Strat-AEs in FG, the risk of nonbattle injury must be lessened and improvements must be made to the local health care system and to the partnership between civilian and military health services.

Several strategies have been developed to detect diagnostic errors for organizational learning and improvement. However, few health care organizations (HCOs) have integrated these strategies into routine operations. To address this gap, the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality released "Measure Dx: A Resource To Identify, Analyze, and Learn From Diagnostic Safety Events" in 2022. ⋯ Use of Measure Dx can help accelerate implementation of systematic approaches to diagnostic error measurement and learning across a variety of HCOs, while potentially enabling HCOs to identify opportunities to improve diagnostic safety practices.

Decreased severe respiratory illness was observed during the first 2 years of the COVID-19 pandemic, with a relatively smaller decrease among children with medical complexity (CMC) compared to non-CMC. We extended this analysis to the third pandemic year (April 1, 2022, to March 31, 2023) when pandemic public health measures were loosened. ⋯ Increased intensive care unit admissions for respiratory illness were also observed (CMC: RR, 1.44; 95% CI, 1.31-1.59; non-CMC: RR, 2.02; 95% CI, 1.89-2.16). Understanding respiratory surge drivers may provide insights to protect at-risk children from respiratory morbidity.

To describe the preparedness for, epidemiological characteristics of and public health responses to the first and second waves of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in six remote Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities in Queensland from late 2021. ⋯ It is likely that the co-designed, collaborative partnerships between local councils, community-controlled health services, state health services and public health units positively impacted the management and outcomes of COVID-19 in each of the six communities.
