Randomized Controlled Trial
Randomized trial to improve children's body composition and micronutrient status among South African Children.
Physical activity (PA) promotion combined with multimicronutrient supplementation (MMNS) among school-age children may reduce fat mass accrual and increase muscle mass through different mechanisms and so benefit child health. This study determined the efficacy of combined interventions on body composition among South African schoolchildren and determined if micronutrients mediate these effects. ⋯ PA and MMNS promotion in school-based interventions directly contributed to reductions in FM and increased FFM among South African children and indirectly through changes in micronutrient status.

The importance of preventive medicine and primary care in the sphere of public health is expanding, yet a gap exists in the utilization of recommended medical services. As patients increasingly turn to online resources for supplementary advice, the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in providing accurate and reliable information has emerged. The present study aimed to assess ChatGPT-4's and Google Bard's capacity to deliver accurate recommendations in preventive medicine and primary care. ⋯ ChatGPT-4 and Bard demonstrated potential in offering accurate information in preventive care. It also brought to light the critical need for regular updates, particularly in the rapidly evolving areas of medicine. A significant proportion of the AI models' responses were deemed "accurate with missing information," emphasizing the importance of viewing AI tools as complementary resources when seeking medical information.

Type 2 diabetes (T2D) is a prevalent disease that increases risk for vascular, renal, and neurologic complications. Prevention and treatment of T2D and its complications are paramount. Many advancements in T2D care have emerged over the past 5 years, including increased understanding of the importance of early intensive glycemic control, mental health, social determinants of health, healthy eating patterns, continuous glucose monitoring, and the benefits of some drugs for preventing cardiorenal disease. This review summarizes the evidence supporting T2D prevention and treatment, focusing on aspects that are commonly in the purview of primary care physicians.

COVID-19 vaccination is estimated to have averted more than 2.4 million deaths globally. In the United States (U. S.) alone, more than 120,000 deaths and 700,000 hospitalizations are reportedly estimated to have been prevented during the first six months of the vaccine campaign. ⋯ Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). While tenure is designed to protect those with contrarian views, we believe that the University has an ethical obligation to condemn misleading statements that put public health at risk. Herein, we explore the challenges of managing misinformation disseminated by someone who is simultaneously a tenured professor at a public, state-supported university, and a politically appointed public health official.

Young adults (YA) with childhood-onset chronic conditions-particularly YA with cystic fibrosis (CF), congenital heart disease (CHD), and sickle cell disease (SCD)-continue to have pediatric hospital admissions. Factors associated with this continued pediatric hospital use remain underexplored. ⋯ YA with SCD used pediatric hospitals less than YA with either CF or CHD. Coupled with our findings that Black YA with CF and CHD had less pediatric hospital use, these data may reflect systematic racial differences within pediatric to adult healthcare transition programs.
