This study retrospectively assessed the effects of Jiawei Yiqihuoxue decotion (JWYQHXD) for the treatment of post stroke depression and anxiety (PSDA). This retrospective study included 72 patients who had undergone PSDA. All patients received flupentixol and melitracen and were divided into treatment (n = 36) and control (n = 36) groups. ⋯ However, there were significant differences in quality of life 36-item short form health survey (physical function, P = .02; physical role, P = .01; and general health, P = .04) between the 2 groups after treatment. This study found that the JWYQHXD may help improve the quality of life of patients with PSDA. Future prospective studies are warranted to confirm these findings.

Postoperative pulmonary complications (PPCs) increase postoperative mortality, hospital stays, and healthcare costs. Whether the use of sugammadex could reduce PPCs remains controversial. This study aimed to determine if sugammadex could more effectively reduce PPCs than acetylcholinesterase inhibitor (AChEi) in patients who had undergone spine surgery, in prone position intraoperatively. ⋯ Respiratory failure occurred in 7 (4.9%) patients in the Sugammadex group and 5 (3.5%) patients in the AChEi group (P = .77). There was no significant difference in secondary outcomes between the 2 groups. Although there have been some evidences showing that the use of sugammadex can attenuate the development of PPCs, this study did not show positive effects of sugammadex on patients who underwent spine surgery in the prone position.

Vasovagal syncope is the most common form of syncope seen in young and otherwise healthy active duty service members. Although self-limiting, syncopal events often produce a significant drain of medical resources because of their sudden and often dramatic presentation, which can be associated with traumatic injuries secondary to loss in postural tone. ⋯ We present a case of vasovagal syncope experienced by a 20-year-old sailor shortly after venipuncture and the 12-lead electrocardiogram captured shortly after presentation. This case highlights the unique electrophysiology during a vasovagal episode and the impact a relatively benign condition has on medical operations in the operational setting.

Structural brain network changes in patients with neurofibromatosis type 1: A retrospective study.
We investigated the changes in structural connectivity (using diffusion tensor imaging [DTI]) and the structural covariance network based on structural volume using graph theory in patients with neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) compared to a healthy control group. We included 14 patients with NF1, according to international consensus recommendations, and 16 healthy individuals formed the control group. This was retrospectively observational study followed STROBE guideline. ⋯ We observed changes in structural connectivity and covariance networks in patients with NF1 compared to a healthy control group. We found that global structural efficiency is decreased in the brains of patients with NF1, and widespread changes in the local structural network were found. These results suggest that NF1 is a brain network disease, and our study provides direction for further research to elucidate the biological processes of NF1.

The aim of this study was to describe and compare the self-concept, self-perception, physical exercise, and lifestyle of students from 1st to 4th year of the Nursing university studies. Descriptive observational cross-sectional study with analytical components. The study sample consisted of 1st and 4th year undergraduate Nursing students. ⋯ It is significant that adolescents do not perceive the poor figures they obtain in self-concept, physical exercise, diet, sleep, and violence as reflected in their health. It is known that the changes adopted in adolescence will be perpetuated in adulthood. Therefore, influencing this population group, and even more so, if they are potential future health professionals, is deemed necessary.
