AbstractDirect-care Medical Readiness Training Exercises (MEDRETEs) are a popular method for conducting global health engagement. Unfortunately, direct-care MEDRETEs build partnerships without building partner nation capacity. This article proposes that global health engagement should instead focus on partner-led health engagements to accomplish both of these goals.© The Association of Military Surgeons of the United States 2020.
