AbstractHypertension emergencies in childhood occur mainly in end-stage renal disease. In the management the intravenous administration of diazoxide (3--5 mg/kg) is of special importance. Diazoxide results in an immediate and prolonged effect in lowering the blood pressure in 15 children. Serious side effects were not observed. The experiences with the use of diazoxide in the treatment of hypertensive emergencies is discussed.
