AbstractDermoscopy (epiluminescence microscopy) is a noninvasive technique that is designed for in vivo microscopic examination of pigmented skin lesions, particularly for the early recognition of malignant melanoma. Since its introduction, dermoscopy technique has undergone extensive improvements; the instruments have become more readily available; and the diagnostic indications, benefits, and limitations have been better delineated. This article offers a concise review of the technique of dermoscopy, assesses the current status, and makes some predictions for future applications.
