AbstractThe authors summarize the experience with the participation of forensic medical experts in reducing the crime rise, prophylaxis of socially significant pathologies (such as drug addiction, diabetes mellitus, tuberculosis, oncological diseases, HIV infection) and improvement of health services to the population as exemplified by the activities of the specialists of Sankt-Peterburg Bureau of Forensic Medical Expertise. The special emphasis is laid on the role of the city's therapeutic and prophylactic facilities in this work and up-to-date high-tech laboratory and special investigations.
