AbstractThe French Academy of Surgery was not created easily largely due to the frequent quarrels between physician and surgeons. Founded in 1731, it experiented many trials and tribulations for three centuries. Disbanded in 1793 by the Convention, it was transformed into Société Nationale in 1843 and only regained the name of Académie in 1935.
