AbstractAn analysis of patients presenting with headache shows that in very few cases is the headache related to refractive error. Similarly in presbyopia and hypermetropia headaches are infrequent. A significant proportion (up to 50%) of those patients presenting with a close relationship of headache to accommodation difficulty can be helped by glasses. It is postulated that ciliary muscle contraction per se is effortless and symptomless and that any headaches produced are due to associated contraction of the scalp muscles.
