AbstractNonalcoholic steatohepatitis, or NASH, is the most severe form of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). If left untreated, NASH can develop into advanced liver disease, such as cirrhosis. Moreover, patients with NASH and cirrhosis are also at increased risk of developing hepatocellular carcinoma. Therefore, early detection and intervention are key components to prevent disease progression, particularly in the primary care setting where many patients with NASH are typically encountered.
