AbstractData from a community-based screening campaign were analyzed to assess compliance with colorectal cancer (CRC) screening guidelines among both average risk adults and those at increased risk because of having a first-degree relative (FDR) with CRC (FDR+). The prevalence of screening compliance was low in both groups. The authors also found that individuals with FDR+ returned a free fecal occult blood test at a slightly higher rate than those without FDR+s. Despite higher screening rates among individuals with FDR+s, interventions may need to target this high-risk group to increase compliance with CRC screening recommendations.
