IntroductionThe caregivers of dependent elderly people have a greater probability of experiencing burden, anxiety and depression than the general population.ObjectiveTo study the effectiveness of a psychological intervention program at home.Material And MethodsFourteen caregivers of dependent elderly people participated in this study. The variables studied were social support, burden, psychological well-being (anxiety and depression), and dysfunctional thoughts about caregiving.ResultsAfter the intervention, caregivers showed significantly less anxiety, depression and subjective burden (P< .01).ConclusionsThe program was effective in reducing psychological distress among family caregivers.
