Session TitleLung Cancer Posters ISESSION TYPE: Poster PresentationsPRESENTED ON: Saturday, March 22, 2014 at 01:15 PM - 02:15 PMPURPOSE: To investigate the prognostic effect of surgical resection after the neoadjuvant therapy in the locally advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients.MethodsThe medical records of 186 patients with locally advanced NSCLC were retrospectively reviewed. The effect of the surgical resection after the neoadjuvan therapy on the survival of the patients was investigated.Results15 (8.1%) of the patients were females and 171 (91.9%) of them were male. 50 (26.8%) patients had stage IIIA, 136 (73.2%) of the patients had stage IIIB. In total, 35 (18.8%) of the patients underwent surgical resection. 18 (51.4%) of these cases were stage IIIA, 17 (48.6%) of them were stage IIIB. The median survival time of the stage IIIA patients who underwent surgery was 24 months, the median survival time of patients with stage IIIA without surgery was 15 months. This difference was statistically significant (p=0.05). In the stage IIIB group, the median survival times of the patients with and without surgery were 26 and 12 months, respectively. The median survival time of the Stage IIIB patients who underwent surgery was significantly longer (p=0.003). For both groups; we determined that gender, age and tumor histology had no effect on the survival, but ECOG had the effect on survival.ConclusionsIn our study, we found that in the selected cases, the surgical treatment increases the survival time in the locally advanced NCSLC patients.Clinical ImplicationsWe propose that surgical treament after neoadjuvant therapy should be considered in the selected locally advanced NSCLC cases.DisclosureThe following authors have nothing to disclose: Ayse Baha, Ahmet Yurdakul, Fatma Yildirim, Can OzturkNo Product/Research Disclosure Information.
