Session TitleCOPD Comorbidity PostersSESSION TYPE: Poster PresentationsPRESENTED ON: Saturday, March 22, 2014 at 01:15 PM - 02:15 PMPURPOSE: The effects of meteorological conditions on the frequency of COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) exacerbations.Methodsthe Social Security Institution, the records of patients diagnosed with COPD were randomized to a two-year period in a group of patients on hospital admissions application has been examined and evaluated as an exacerbation. Antibiotic and / or steroids use , treatment in hospital or progression of symptoms were considered as exacerbation.Between the same dates, city center, meteorological data (daily / hourly temperature, humidity and pressure of radiation, the solar and wind characteristics) has been the General Directorate of State Meteorology jobs .With daily and monthly frequency of exacerbations in the two calendar years at that time, temperature, pressure, humidity, wind speed and direction, as compared with the parameters. Spearman's correlation test was used to evaluate correlations and statistical software.ResultsA total of 411 people in 2710 who were randomized to once admitted to hospital during the study period, 59% of them (1,590 applications) is understood to be due to an exacerbation. Flare-ups in 2010 and 2011, respectively, 558 and 562, respectively, 1.35 per patient / year and 1.36 / year were flare-ups. Research during the period of the patients with exacerbation frequency, temperature, humidity and pressure were correlated. Temperature and pressure decreases, the humidity increases, more patients were seen flare-ups. Southern wind speed did not affect the frequency of attacks and Northern winds were different from the frequency of exacerbations.ConclusionsDamp and cold climate augments the frequency of COPD exacerbations.Clinical ImplicationsThe improvements in environmental conditions can decrease the frequency of exacerbations in COPD.DisclosureThe following authors have nothing to disclose: Burhan Akbas, Arzu MiriciNo Product/Research Disclosure Information.
