Session TitleComorbidities of OSA PostersSESSION TYPE: Poster PresentationsPRESENTED ON: Saturday, March 22, 2014 at 01:15 PM - 02:15 PMPURPOSE: The aim of the present study was to examine the relationships between the overnight oxygen desaturation index (ODI), parameters sleep and cardiovascular events in a sample of patients evaluated in the unit respiratory sleep disorders.MethodsWe performed a restropective study collecting data from 105 patients evaluated in the unit respiratory sleep disorders. In this study, diagnostic polygraphy recordings were retrospectively analysed. It was studied the correlation of ODI with AHI and the presence or absence of comorbidity, defining this as the presence of ischemic heart disease and/or arrhythmias and/or acute stroke.ResultsAmong the 105 studied patients, 17 (16%) had comorbidity. ODI values were correlated with AHI with a correlation coefficient of 0.87. There was a significant relationship between the severity of ODI and the presence of comorbidity (p 0.038), and also a significant association between the AHI and the presence of comorbidity (p 0.024)CONCLUSIONS: ODI appears a good parameter to estimate the severity of OSA (obstructive sleep apnea) and may be associated with more prevalence of ischemic heart disease, arrythmias and acute stoke.Clinical ImplicationsOur work provides a parameter able to assess the significantly prevalence of cardiovascular disease in patients with OSA.DisclosureThe following authors have nothing to disclose: Carolina Gotera, Patricia Lazo Meneses, Deisy Barrios Barreto, Paola Arrieta Narvaez, Maria Galarza Jimenez, Eva Mañas Baena, Maria Salazar, Esteban Perez RodriguezNo Product/Research Disclosure Information.
