Session TitleTobacco Cessation and Prevention PostersSESSION TYPE: Poster PresentationsPRESENTED ON: Saturday, March 22, 2014 at 01:15 PM - 02:15 PMPURPOSE: To analyze knowledge and attitudes about smoking among medical students and to asses possible changes in those parameter after and special class.MethodsAn anonymous survey was made among the participants on the smoking cessation class. This survey had 14 questions in order to evaluate knowledge and attitudes related to the smoking habit (pre-test). After the participation in the class, which last about one hour, the same survey was made (post-test) to analyze the changes. We used the SPSS program to statistical analysis of the dates.ResultsWe obtained 84 valid questionnaires (42 pre-test and 42 post-test). The percentages of correct answers within the pre-test and post-test, and the statistic significance are the following (in order: Pre-test, Post-test, and statistic significance -p-): Relationship between smoking habit and illness: 50%, 83,2% and < 0,001 Relationship between smoking habit as the first cause of preventive death: 4,8%, 69% and <0,001 Relationship between tendency of consumption and social class: 76,2%, 95,2% and 0,008 Age of beginning: 14,3%, 73,8% and <0,001 Relation of cardiovascular illness whit CO: 7,1%, 90,5% and < 0,001 Relation of cancer whit nitrosamines: 7,1%, 90,5% and < 0,001 Relation of COPD whit oxidation: 7,1%, 90,5% and < 0,001 Effectiveness of pharmacological treatment: 35,7%, 71,4% and 0,005CONCLUSIONS: After the participation in one hour standard class, the knowledge about epidemiology, physiopathology effects, and treatment of smoking habit, are improved.Clinical ImplicationsWe must improve knowledge about smoking among medical students in order to increase and progress in the treatment of smokers.DisclosureThe following authors have nothing to disclose: Maria Jose Antona, Francisca Marquez, Pilar Cordero, María Teresa Gómez Vizcaíno, María del Carmen García GarcíaNo Product/Research Disclosure Information.
