Session TitleTobacco Cessation and PreventionSESSION TYPE: Slide PresentationsPRESENTED ON: Saturday, March 22, 2014 at 12:15 PM - 01:15 PMPURPOSE: To determine the prevalence of smoking in university students girls of Extremadura (Spain) belonging to the Faculty of Education and Teacher Training Faculty.MethodsDescriptive cross-sectional study, between the students enrolled in the Faculty of Education, Teacher Training College, Degree of Psychopedagogy and Degree course of Social Education in Extremadura. We used an anonymous survey in which respondents were asked about sociodemographic data, prevalence of tobacco consumption, knowledge, attitudes and beliefs and formation in smoking. The statistical data were analyzed using SPSS program.Results335 students responded to the questionnaire, 81,5 % women. The prevalence of the tobacco consumption among females was 31,8 %, and in males 8,6 %, with 5,8 % former smokers between women and no ex-smokers among men. Results refer to women: 8 % of the respondents have started smoking before13 years, and 92 % after 13 years old. 48,2 % consumed more than 10 cigarettes / day. The highest percentage (44 %) corresponds those that start smoking between 4 and 7 years before the study, and the lowest percentage (7 %) those that carry smoking less than 1 year previous. 80,5 % has considered quitting, nevertheless only 3 % of them have received medical help, and 1 % have received psychological help.Conclusions1) There is a high prevalence of smoking in future Extremadura education professionals, higher to the national average, relevant information due to his exemplary role with his future pupils. 2) Future professionals of the Extremadura education, have a high consumption, with an early age of beginning of the consumption of tobacco.Clinical ImplicationsWe should improve the knowledge about the exemplary roll of professional education on young pupils, in relation to the consumption of tobacco.DisclosureThe following authors have nothing to disclose: Francisca Marquez, Maria Jose Antona, Pilar Cordero Montero, María Teresa Gómez Vizcaíno, Pedro Pires GoncalvesNo Product/Research Disclosure Information.
