Session TitleTuberculosis PostersSESSION TYPE: Poster PresentationsPRESENTED ON: Saturday, March 22, 2014 at 01:15 PM - 02:15 PMPURPOSE: This study will provide baseline data on the profile of patients with PTB and HIV .MethodsReview of medical records of all PTB patients with HIV who consulted at WVMC PPMD DOTS from August 2012 to August 2013RESULTS: Twenty six patients were enrolled in the study. Results revealed that majorityof patients (53.84%) (14/26) belonged in the 19¬29 years of age, mostly males (88.46%)(23/26), single (80.77%) (21/26), and mostly unemployed (73.08%) (19/26). Many were smokers (76%) (20/26) and alcoholic beverage drinkers (73%) (19/26). Most patients with HIV had CD count ranging from 100¬200 u/L (35%) (9/26). All patients included were diagnosed with active TB disease (100%) (26/26). Most were classified under category I (69%) (18/26), category II (15%) (4/26) and category III (12%) (3/26) and (4%) (1/26) was referred to PMDT as MDRTB suspect. (92%) (24/26) were started on anti TB treatment, (4%) (1/26) continued anti kochs medications and (4%) (1/26) was referred to PMDT as MDRTB suspect.ConclusionsThe incidence of patients with PTB and HIV is on the rise and has a great impact on our society.Clinical ImplicationsIncreased awareness of this co infection (PTB with HIV) could help in better management of these diseases in the future.
