AbstractBuprenorphine (Subutex) is a safe and effective treatment for opioid dependence, and has very low potential for abuse, especially when it is combined with naloxone (Narcan) in a single sublingual tablet (Suboxone). New regulations allow physicians who are certified in buprenorphine therapy to offer it in their offices, a development that can substantially increase patient access to treatment.
