AbstractToday we have the necessary cancer pain-relieving agents. These medications can safely be administered orally and in the patient's home. Sufficient analgesia offers the patient the opportunity for a dignified and comfortable death. The family is relieved from the anger, despair, and sense of helplessness that comes from watching a loved one die in uncontrolled pain. As nurses in home healthcare, we can impact the statement that 25% of all cancer patients die without pain relief. It is our mission to integrate all that is known about pain management into a holistic practice that will provide the patient with the opportunity for a dignified and comfortable transition from this life.
