AbstractChimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy has shown great promise in the treatment of hematological disease, and its utility for treatment of solid tumors is beginning to unfold. Glioblastoma continues to portend a grim prognosis and immunotherapeutic approaches are being explored as a potential treatment strategy. Identification of appropriate glioma-associated antigens, barriers to cell delivery, and presence of an immunosuppressive microenvironment are factors that make CAR T-cell therapy for glioblastoma particularly challenging. However, insights gained from preclinical studies and ongoing clinical trials indicate that CAR T-cell therapy will continue to evolve and likely become integrated with current therapeutic strategies for malignant glioma.Copyright © 2017 Elsevier Inc.
