Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative StudyA randomized, controlled, double-blind trial of the adjunct use of tegaserod in whole-dose or split-dose polyethylene glycol electrolyte solution for colonoscopy preparation.
Problems of compliance, quality, and safety of colon preparation regimens have prompted continued investigation with alternative forms of cleansing. ⋯ Tegaserod has a marginal effect on the quality of colonoscopy preparation when used as an adjuvant to PEG-E. The split-dose PEG-E was superior to the whole-dose PEG-E and resulted in better colon cleansing, adherence, and tolerance.

Comparative Study Clinical TrialSmall-bowel imaging in Crohn's disease: a prospective, blinded, 4-way comparison trial.
With the introduction of new techniques to image the small bowel, there remains uncertainty about their role for diagnosing Crohn's disease. ⋯ The sensitivity of CE for active small-bowel Crohn's disease was not significantly different from CTE, ileocolonoscopy, or SBFT. However, lower specificity and the need for preceding small-bowel radiography (due to the high frequency of asymptomatic PSBO) may limit the utility of CE as a first-line test for Crohn's disease.

Safety of conventional and wireless capsule endoscopy in patients supported with nonpulsatile axial flow Heart-Mate II left ventricular assist device.
Left ventricular assist devices (LVADs) are increasingly being used as a bridge for cardiac transplantation in patients with decompensated cardiac function. A known complication of these devices is severe and sometimes life-threatening GI bleeding, usually related to the presence of angioectasias. Endoscopy has been generally accepted as safe in patients with cardiac disease and implanted cardiac devices, when it is performed with appropriate monitoring. However, the literature is sparse regarding the safety of endoscopy in patients with LVADs. ⋯ We observed that endoscopy, including capsule endoscopy, may be safely performed in these patients with appropriate monitoring.
