The effects of Juglone-Selenium combination on invasion and metastasis in pancreatic cancer cell lines.
Pancreatic cancer does not show any symptoms in the early period and metastatic process is already passed when the diagnosis is done. Therefore, in the battle with pancreatic cancer, novel treatment strategies, particularly antiinvasive and antimetastatic strategies, are needed. The cytotoxic and anticancer effects of juglone and sodium selenite (NaSe) have been showed in various cancer cells. ⋯ The juglone-NaSe has the potential to be a promising agent especially to inhibit invasion and metastasis in pancreatic cancer treatment. However, more in depth studies are needed to more clearly demonstrate the effects of juglone-selenium.

Pilot study of new statistical models for prognostic factors in short term survival of oral cancer.
Survival times of oral cancer are poorly documented in Nigeria. This is partly due to poor documentation and limited investigations to elicit sufficient prognostic factors. In this study, we applied a new statistical model for survival times of oral cancer patients considering limited prognostic factors. ⋯ This study suggests that the Weibull survival model is the best fit for estimating oral cancer survival times especially where only limited prognostic factors are available. Larger studies are required to validate the findings of this pilot.

Sensitivity, specificity of biochemical markers for early prediction of endothelial dysfunction in atherosclerotic obese subjects.
The obesity increased incidence of diabetes, hypertension and atherosclerosis and rate of morbidity and mortality. The main cause of atherosclerosis is endothelial dysfunction and formation of foam cells and macrophage that lead to unfavorable complications. This study evaluated specific biomarkers for endothelial dysfunction as sensitive indices for early predication of atherosclerosis in obese subjects. ⋯ The levels of serum adhesion molecules contributed in the pathogenesis of endothelial dysfunction can be used as sensitive biomarkers for early prediction of atherosclerosis in obese subjects.
