Risk and protective factors associated with depression in young people: what do Nigerian university students know?
University students appear to experience a significantly higher rate of depression compared to the general population. However, there is limited data showing how much Nigerian university students know about the risk and protective factors related to depression. ⋯ The students had good knowledge of protective factors against depression, but were poor in knowledge of its associated risks. Therefore, provision of mental health services in the universities is recommended.

Assessment of knowledge of malaria and its control practices in mining and sugarcane growing regions of Western Kenya highlands.
Despite upscaled control efforts, deaths and hospitalization due to malaria remained high in counties of western Kenya highlands. ⋯ There was awareness of the risk factors of malaria transmission in the study sites. The local communities must be mobilized and empowered through EIC for the control practises to bear fruit against malaria transmission. However, more sensitization needs to be done to optimize the use of malaria control practices.

Prevalence of extended spectrum Beta-Lactamase producing Klebsiella species from patients' specimens in a tertiary teaching hospital in Ile-Ife, Southwest Nigeria.
This study determined the prevalence of ESBL genes amongst Klebsiella species isolated from patients' specimens attending a Tertiary Teaching Hospital, in Ile-Ife, Southwest Nigeria. ⋯ The study establishes the prevalence of Extended Spectrum Beta-Lactamase producing Klebsiella sp in the hospital and identified the most prevalent ESBL genes circulating as blaSHV followed by blaTEM and blaCTX-M in this environment. This underscores the need for regular and continuous surveillance of antimicrobial resistance trend as a strong component of the antibiotics stewardship and infection prevention and control programs in the hospital.

Outcome and prognostic markers of cirrhotic and non-cirrhotic patients admitted to a hepatology ICU in a tertiary care university hospital.
Patients with decompensated liver cirrhosis are not given priority for ICU admission in the settings of limited place availability. Recently, advances in medical care led to improvement in their survival. Our aim is to study the outcome of patients admitted to our hepatology ICU. ⋯ The mortality of cirrhotic patients admitted to ICU is not higher than non-cirrhotic patients. SOFA score is a good prognostic indicator in patients with cirrhosis.

Towards developing a comprehensive treatment schedule for patients with cerebral palsy: factors influencing patient's adherence to physiotherapy treatment.
This study is aimed to identify factors influencing patient's adherence to treatment in a bid to characterize the extent to which these factors are considered while developing a treatment schedule for patients with cerebral palsy in Nigeria. ⋯ Distance to the clinic when compared to other (economic, patient-therapist relationship) factors is the major barrier to patient's adherence to treatment and therefore should be considered while developing treatment schedules for patients with cerebral palsy.
