Randomized Controlled TrialSerratus plane block for video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery major lung resection: a randomized controlled trial.
The aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of 2 different analgesic approaches on pain, postoperative rehabilitation exercises and rescue analgesics of 2 groups of patients undergoing video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) major lung resection for cancer. ⋯ NCT03134729.

Randomized Controlled TrialDistal aortic remodelling after the standard and the elongated frozen elephant trunk procedure.
The aim of this study was to evaluate abdominal aortic remodelling after the standard compared with the elongated frozen elephant trunk (FET) technique in patients with aortic dissection. ⋯ The standard FET technique is an adequate measure to induce false lumen thrombosis and improve abdominal aortic remodelling. The elongated FET technique seems to be superior to the standard FET procedure in terms of freedom from aortic remodelling and the distal reintervention rate.

Randomized Controlled TrialIntravenous iron does not effectively correct preoperative anaemia in cardiac surgery: a pilot randomized controlled trial.
Preoperative anaemia is a strong predictor of blood transfusion requirements and must be assessed for appropriate optimization before elective surgery. Iron therapy is a transfusion-sparing approach effective for increasing haemoglobin concentrations. However, its role in elective cardiac surgery and the optimal route of administration remain unknown. This single-centre, non-blinded, randomized, controlled trial compared the effectiveness of intravenous ferric carboxymaltose therapy with oral iron for anaemic patients undergoing elective cardiac surgery. ⋯ ISRCTN22158788.

Randomized Controlled TrialSystematic short-term pulmonary rehabilitation before lung cancer lobectomy: a randomized trial.
The goal of this study was to assess the impact of a preoperative 1-week, systematic, high-intensity inpatient exercise regimen on patients with lung cancer who had risk factors for postoperative pulmonary complications (PPCs). ⋯ ChiCTR-IOR-16008109.

Randomized Controlled TrialEffectiveness of prophylactic levosimendan in patients with impaired left ventricular function undergoing coronary artery bypass grafting: a randomized pilot study.
Perioperative low cardiac output syndrome occurs in 3-14% of patients undergoing isolated coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG), leading to significant increase in major morbidity and mortality. Considering the unique pharmacological and pharmacokinetic properties of levosimendan, we conducted a prospective, double-blind, randomized pilot study to evaluate the effectiveness of prophylactic levosimendan in patients with impaired left ventricular function undergoing CABG. ⋯ This pilot study shows that prophylactic levosimendan infusion is safe and effective in increasing the LVEF postoperatively in patients with impaired cardiac function undergoing coronary surgery. This finding may be translated to 'optimizing' patients' status before surgery.
