Extended-spectrum beta-lactamases among Klebsiella pneumoniae from Iraqi patients with community-acquired pneumonia.
Beta-lactams resistance is a major clinical problem in treating pneumonia. This study aimed to detect the extended-spectrum beta-lactamases (ESBL) genes in Klebsiella pneumoniae among patients with community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) in Al-Najaf City, Iraq. ⋯ The imipenem and norfloxacin can be used in empirical treatment of K. pneumoniae isolates in Iraq. The emergence of K. pneumoniae strains harboring ESBL resistance genes necessitates the development of a regular surveillance program to prevent the spreading of these isolates more in Iraqi health care systems.

Investigation of allele frequencies of polymorphic variants in genes that are related to polycystic ovary syndrome.
Polycystic ovary syndrome is a hormonal disorder that normally affects women of reproductive age in the range of 18-44 years. This study aimed to investigate the allelic frequencies of two polymorphisms, IRS rs18012781 and INSR rs1799817, which are suspected to be involved in polycystic ovary syndrome. ⋯ These single-nucleotide polymorphisms do not seem to modify the risk of polycystic ovary syndrome, and they cannot be used as a marker in clinical circumstances to evaluate the possible occurrence of polycystic ovary syndrome.

Evaluation of the cardio-ankle vascular index in COVID-19 patients.
This study aimed to investigate the relationship and prognostic significance of cardio-ankle vascular index, which is a measure of arterial stiffness that can lead to endothelial dysfunction and poor cardiovascular issues in COVID-19 patients, with COVID-19. ⋯ The right-cardio-ankle vascular index and left-cardio-ankle vascular index values increased in COVID-19 patients in our study, and this was thought to be prognostically significant.

Effects of sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 inhibitors on nutritional status in heart failure with reduced ejection fraction.
This study aimed to evaluate the effects of sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 inhibitors on nutritional status in patients with heart failure with reduced ejection fraction. ⋯ In patients with heart failure with reduced ejection fraction who are symptomatic despite optimal medical treatment, the addition of an sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 inhibitor to treatment can significantly improve both the nutritional and functional statuses.

Effect of anesthesia type on outcome measures in cesarean section in the presence of fetal macrosomia.
The aim of this study was to compare the effects of general and spinal anesthesia on maternal and neonatal outcomes during cesarean section in pregnancies with macrosomia. ⋯ Apgar scores of <7 at the first and fifth minutes are higher in macrosomic neonates who received general anesthesia than in neonates who received spinal anesthesia. Performing cesarean section under general anesthesia in mothers of macrosomic neonates results in a greater decrease in hematocrit value and a greater need for blood transfusion than under spinal anesthesia.
