This study aimed to investigate the short-term effect of cycloplegia on higher-order aberrations (HOAs) in school-age myopic children who received 0.25% atropine for cycloplegic refraction. ⋯ The positive shift of spherical aberration induced by the inhibition of accommodation in myopic children may have a possible effect against myopic progression. Future studies can focus on the long-term effect on HOAs and impact on visual quality with lower concentrations of atropine.

Pregnant and lactating women are vulnerable to iodine deficiency. This study was conducted to evaluate the iodine nutritional status of lactating women in northern Taiwan. ⋯ The results suggest that the iodine status in lactating women in northern Taiwan is adequate. However, iodine deficiency may continue to be present in certain subgroups, such as women of younger age and those who do not take multivitamins.

Few prognostic factors have been proposed for patients with locally advanced renal cell carcinoma (RCC). This study aimed to investigate the possible predictive factors for disease-free survival (DFS) after curative surgery for RCC stage T3 or higher. ⋯ In patients with locally advanced RCC, Fuhrman grade was associated with worse DFS after curative surgery. Urologists should closely monitor patients with high Fuhrman grades.

Kisspeptin (KISS1) and kisspeptin receptor (KISS1R) are essential gatekeepers of the reproductive system. The functions of KISS1 and KISS1R in corpus luteal cells remain ambiguous. The objective was to observe normal physiologic functions of corpus luteal cells in vivo and clarify the functions of KISS1 in vitro. ⋯ We determined that KISS1 could affect the P4 levels, steroidogenesis, and cell proliferation in luteal cells. However, further research is required to clarify how KISS1 regulates proliferation and steroid production in luteal cells.
