The global incidence and prevalence of type 2 diabetes have been escalating in recent decades. The total diabetic population is expected to increase from 415 million in 2015 to 642 million by 2040. Patients with type 2 diabetes have an increased risk of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD). ⋯ The antidiabetic agents were ranked according to their clinical evidence. The consensus is not mandatory. The final decision may need to be individualized and based on clinicians' discretion.

Patients undergoing pancreaticoduodenectomy (PD) for periampullary lesions are usually elderly with a high risk of postoperative morbidity and mortality. This retrospective cohort study investigated whether postoperative preemptive light sedation aids in recovery of elderly patients following PD. ⋯ Postoperative preemptive light sedation in the ICU in geriatric patients following PD may not only reduce the rates of postoperative pulmonary complications and gastroparesis but also improve postoperative quality of life without prolonging the postoperative hospital LOS.

Chondrosarcoma is the second most common primary sarcoma of the bone. Surgery remains the gold standard for treatment due to chemotherapy and radiotherapy resistance in chondrosarcoma. The main aim of our study was to analyze patients with primary chondrosarcoma of the bone who were treated in a single tumor center. Our study team identified the prognostic factors for overall survival, metastasis-free survival, and recurrence-free survival. ⋯ Chondrosarcoma of the bone is a disease with surgery-dependent outcomes; but, however, patients often develop subsequent recurrence of the disease. The surgical margins were statistically associated with the risk of subsequent local recurrence but did not predict survival. The development of distant metastases was an independent prognostic factor for poor survival.
