Chi-squared Automatic Interaction Detection Decision Tree Analysis of Risk Factors for Infant Anemia in Beijing, China.
In the past decades, studies on infant anemia have mainly focused on rural areas of China. With the increasing heterogeneity of population in recent years, available information on infant anemia is inconclusive in large cities of China, especially with comparison between native residents and floating population. This population-based cross-sectional study was implemented to determine the anemic status of infants as well as the risk factors in a representative downtown area of Beijing. ⋯ The infant anemic status in metropolis is complex and should be carefully considered by the basic health care practitioners. CHAID decision tree analysis has demonstrated a better performance in hierarchical analysis of population with great heterogeneity. Risk factors identified by this study might be meaningful in the early detection and prompt treatment of infant anemia in large cities.

Acute Fatty Liver of Pregnancy: A Retrospective Analysis of 56 Cases.
Acute fatty liver of pregnancy (AFLP) is a rare but life-threatening complication occurring in the third trimester. It is often fatal to both mother and fetus. The complicated clinical manifestations as well as an insufficient understanding of the disease make the precise diagnosis and effective treatment of AFLP challenging. A full understanding of the risk factors, clinical features, and test findings of AFLP is critical for its timely diagnosis and treatment. ⋯ The initial symptoms varied considerably, with nausea and vomiting (13/56, 23%) being the most common. Liver-function indexes were remarkable, including elevated levels of serum alanine aminotransferase (262.16 ± 281.71 U/L), aspartate aminotransferase (260.98 ± 237.91 U/L), lactic dehydrogenase (1011.76 ± 530.34 U/L), and direct bilirubin (85.59 ± 90.02 μmol/L). Coagulation disorders were indicated by abnormal levels of fibrinogen (245.95 ± 186.11 mg/dL), D-dimer (2.46 ± 4.01 mg/L), and fibrin degradation products (43.62 ± 48.71 mg/L). The main maternal complications were hypoproteinemia (75%), coagulopathy (54%), and acute renal failure (39%). Multivariate logistic regression analysis identified prothrombin time (PT; odds ratio [OR] = 1.558, 95% confidence interval [CI] =1.248-1.946, PORCIP= 0.009) as risk factors. The perinatal infant death rate was related to gestational age at delivery (ORCI PORCI PORCI PConclusions: Nausea and vomiting may be the most common symptoms of AFLP. Indexes of liver dysfunction and coagulation disorders should also be considered. PT and INR are risk factors for fatal complications in patients with AFLP, and perinatal mortality is linked to the level of fibrin degradation products. Timely delivery is crucial to controlling the development of AFLP.

Association of Common Genetic Variants in Mitogen-activated Protein Kinase Kinase Kinase Kinase 4 with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus in a Chinese Han Population.
A study has identified several novel susceptibility variants of the mitogen-activated protein kinase kinase kinase kinase 4 (MAP4K4) gene for type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) within the German population. Among the variants, five single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of MAP4K4 (rs1003376, rs11674694, rs2236935, rs2236936, and rs6543087) showed significant association with T2DM or diabetes-related quantitative traits. We aimed to evaluate whether common SNPs in the MAP4K4 gene were associated with T2DM in the Chinese population. ⋯ MAP4K4 gene is associated with T2DM in a Chinese Han population, and MAP4K4 gene variants may contribute to the risk toward the development of T2DM.

Multicenter StudyWhite Matter Changes in Posttraumatic Stress Disorder Following Mild Traumatic Brain Injury: A Prospective Longitudinal Diffusion Tensor Imaging Study.
The ability to predict posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a critical issue in the management of patients with mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI), as early medical and rehabilitative interventions may reduce the risks of long-term cognitive changes. The aim of the present study was to investigate how diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) metrics changed in the transition from acute to chronic phases in patients with mTBI and whether the alteration relates to the development of PTSD. ⋯ Patients with mTBI have multiple abnormalities in various WM regions. DTI metrics change over time and provide a potential indicator at subacute stage for PTSD following mTBI.

Meta Analysis Comparative StudyPalliative Therapy for Gastric Outlet Obstruction Caused by Unresectable Gastric Cancer: A Meta-analysis Comparison of Gastrojejunostomy with Endoscopic Stenting.
Gastrojejunostomy (GJJ) and endoscopic stenting (ES) are palliative treatments for gastric outlet obstruction (GOO) caused by gastric cancer. We compared the outcomes of GJJ with ES by performing a meta-analysis. ⋯ Both GJJ and ES are effective procedures for the treatment of GOO caused by gastric cancer. ES is associated with better short-term outcomes. GJJ is preferable to ES in terms of its lower rate of stent-related complications, re-obstruction, and reintervention. GJJ should be considered a treatment option for patients with a long life expectancy and good performance status.
