Changing roles of CD3+CD8low T cells in combating HIV-1 infection.
Cluster of differentiation 8 (CD8 T) cells play critical roles in eradicating human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-1 infection, but little is known about the effects of T cells expressing CD8 at low levels (CD8 low ) or high levels (CD8 high ) on HIV-1 replication inhibition after HIV-1 invasion into individual. ⋯ Our findings suggest that CD3 + CD8 low T cells play an anti-HIV role in the first month of infection due to their abundance but induce a weak HIV-1-specific immune response. Subsequently, CD3 + CD8 low T-cell number decreased gradually as infection persisted, and their anti-HIV functions were inferior to those of CD3 + CD8 high T cells.

Anterior temporal lobectomy improved mood status and quality of life in Chinese patients with mesial temporal lobe epilepsy: a single-arm cohort study.
Many studies have emphasized that selective resection of epileptic lesions in temoral lobe is associated with better preservation of cognition function; whether this applies to patients with refractory mesial temporal lobe epilepsy (MTLE) remains unknown. The objective of this study was to evaluate changes in cognitive functions, mood status, and quality of life after anterior temporal lobectomy in patients with refractory MTLE. ⋯ Anterior temporal lobectomy reduced epileptiform discharges and incidence of post-operative seizures as well as resulted in improved mood status and quality of life without causing significant changes in cognitive function.

Essential tremor-Parkinson's disease syndrome: clinical characteristics and subtypes using cluster analysis.
Essential tremor (ET) and Parkinson's disease (PD) are common movement disorders. ET-PD syndrome is characterized by the occurrence of PD in patients with a previous history of ET, which may be an independent phenotype distinct from PD. This study aims to identify clinical characteristics and subtypes in ET-PD. ⋯ ET-PD patients had significantly different characteristics for motor symptoms as compared to PD patients, and may be distinctly divided into two clinical subtypes, namely, the ET-PD complex type and the ET-PD simple type.
