Ligament reconstruction with tendon interposition arthroplasty for first carpometacarpal joint osteoarthritis.
Ligament reconstruction tendon interposition (LRTI) is the most commonly performed surgical procedure for first carpometacarpal joint osteoarthritis. The purpose of this study was to examine the radiographic and clinical outcomes of LRTI arthroplasty and document the clinical results based on metacarpal subsidence. ⋯ Ligament reconstruction tendon interposition arthroplasty resulted in excellent relief of pain and increase in range of motion. However, LRTI cannot maintain the arthroplasty space. Compared with the preoperative radiographs, the metacarpal subsided more than 50%. The amount of first metacarpal subsidence has no bearing on the results.

Diagnosis of pancreatic carcinoma based on combined measurement of multiple serum tumor markers using artificial neural network analysis.
Artificial neural network (ANN) has demonstrated the ability to assimilate information from multiple sources to enable the detection of subtle and complex patterns. In this research, we evaluated an ANN model in the diagnosis of pancreatic cancer using multiple serum markers. ⋯ The performance of ANN model in the diagnosis of pancreatic cancer is better than the single tumor marker and LR model.

Efficacy of radical cystectomy plus adjuvant intraarterial chemotherapy with gemcitabine and cisplatin on locally advanced bladder cancer.
Bladder cancer is the ninth most common cancer in the world; fewer than 15% of transitional-cell carcinoma patients survive 2 years if left untreated. Although radical cystectomy is the standard treatment of choice, much of them relapse and the necessity of adjuvant chemotherapy is still under debate. The aim of the study was to evaluate the efficacy of adjuvant intraarterial chemotherapy (IAC) with gemcitabine and cisplatin (GC) on locally advanced bladder cancer. ⋯ Compared with radical cystectomy alone, radical cystectomy in combination with adjuvant IAC moderately but significantly reduces 1-year mortality. Our preliminary data showed only marginal benefit for the early survival. However, a randomized clinical study is needed to determine the long-term survival benefit.

New disease severity classification of patients with stable chronic obstructive pulmonary disease in Shanghai.
The Global Initiative for Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease (GOLD) presented a new ABCD group classification of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). We aimed to examine the association of spirometric classification and the new GOLD classification with exacerbations, and to compare symptoms in different ways. ⋯ Lung function test may be a better predictor of acute exacerbation and associated hospitalization of COPD. It is more appropriate to use mMRC = 1 as cutoff point for assessing COPD symptoms.

Preliminary study on the evaluation of Langerhans cell histiocytosis using F-18-fluoro-deoxy-glucose PET/CT.
Limited number of studies have been reported regarding the utilization of F-18-fluoro-deoxy-glucose (F-18-FDG) positron emission tomography/computed tomography (F-18-FDG PET/CT) in Langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH). The aim of this study was to assess the role of F-18-FDG PET/CT in the diagnosis and treatment of LCH. ⋯ The present study suggests that F-18-FDG PET/CT may be useful for diagnosis and assessing the treatment response of LCH. Because of the small sample size, further research is warranted to confirm our findings.
