Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter StudyPEG-asparaginase allergy in children with acute lymphoblastic leukemia in the NOPHO ALL2008 protocol.
L-Asparaginase is an effective drug in the treatment of childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). The use of L-asparaginase may be limited by serious adverse events of which allergy is the most frequent. The objective of this study was to describe the clinical aspects of PEG-asparaginase allergy in children treated according to the Nordic Society of Paediatric Haematology and Oncology (NOPHO) ALL2008 protocol. ⋯ Clinical allergy to PEG-asparaginase occurred early in treatment, was in general moderate in severity, and mostly developed within 2 hr after PEG-asparaginase administration. The risk of subsequent Erwinase allergic reactions was low.

Case ReportsSuccessful treatment of Kaposiform hemangioendothelioma with everolimus.
There is currently no consensus on the second-line management of Kaposiform hemangioendothelioma (KHE) that was resistant to prednisolone and vincristine. We described an eight-year-old male with KHE in the right femur that was resistant to prednisolone, vincristine and propranolol. Everolimus, an inhibitor of mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) at the dosage of 0.1 mg/kg/day, successfully decreased the tumor size and controlled the symptoms. Everolimus should be further studied as an alternative agent to sirolimus in the management of KHE.

Multicenter Study Comparative StudyWhy pediatric patients with cancer visit the emergency department: United States, 2006-2010.
Little is known about emergency department (ED) use among pediatric patients with cancer. We explored reasons prompting ED visits and factors associated with hospital admission. ⋯ FN was the most common reason for ED visits among pediatric patients with cancer and is the condition most strongly associated with admission. Socioeconomic factors appear to influence ED disposition for this population.

Clinical TrialImpact of very early CD4(+) /CD8(+) T cell counts on the occurrence of acute graft-versus-host disease and NK cell counts on outcome after pediatric allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation.
Increasing evidence suggests that early and rapid lymphocyte recovery following allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) is associated with better survival. ⋯ We conclude that early lymphocyte subset counts following allogeneic HSCT have an association with aGVHD and post transplant outcome.
