To assess the effects of parathyroidectomy (TPTX versus TPTX+AT) for Secondary Hyperparathyroidism in chronic renal failure: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.
Secondary Hyperparathyroidism (SHPT) requiring parathyroidectomy (PTX) occurs more commonly in patients with progressive chronic kidney disease and in those on long-term lithium therapy. Successful PTX often results in a dramatic drop of parathyroid hormone level, relieves the patient from clinical symptoms, and reduces mortality. However, there is an ongoing debate on the optimal surgical treatment of SHPT. Currently, no clinical guidelines or trials have definitely answered the question of whether Total Parathyroidectomy (TPTX) is superior or equal to Total Parathyroidectomy with Autotransplantation (TPTX + AT). ⋯ The findings indicate that TPTX is superior to TPTX + AT, while referring to the rate of recurrent SHPT. However, this conclusion needs to be tested in large-scale confirmatory trials. TPTX seems to be a feasible alternative therapeutic option for the surgical treatment of refractory SHPT.

Effect of pre-emptive pregabalin on pain management in patients undergoing laparoscopic cholecystectomy: A systematic review and meta-analysis.
Pre-emptive pregabalin might be beneficial to the patients undergoing laparoscopic cholecystectomy. However, the results remained controversial. We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to explore the effect of pregabalin on pain management of patients undergoing laparoscopic cholecystectomy. ⋯ Compared to control intervention, pregabalin intervention was found to significantly reduce the pain scores and postoperative fentanyl consumption, and improve Ramsay Sedation score in patients undergoing laparoscopic cholecystectomy, but had no influence on nausea and vomiting, as well as headache.

Comparative Study Observational Study
Comparative study of type B distal radius fractures with and without lunate facet involvement treated by volar locking plate, an observational study.
This study aimed to evaluate the results of volar locking plate for treatment of type B distal radius fractures involving the lunate facet and compare them with those without involvement in lunate facet. ⋯ Patients with distal radius fractures involving lunate facet would obtain more slow recovery, especially for wrist flexion, supination, ulnar deviation and VAS in motion. In addition, patients with lunate facet fractures would be at higher risk of loss of reduction and final articular step-off.

Meta-analysis of heparin therapy for preventing venous thromboembolism in acute spinal cord injury.
Venous thromboembolism (VTE) is a frequent complication in patients with acute spinal cord injury (SCI) and may have serious consequences. This study aimed to assess the efficacy and safety of heparin and low-molecular-weight heparin (LMWH) venous thromboprophylaxis in patients with acute SCI. ⋯ In this meta-analysis, heparin exhibited protective effects compared with placebo or no treatment with respect to the occurrence of VTE; there were no differences between LMWH and unfractionated heparin with ret to thromboembolism prophylaxis efficacy. LMWH did not reduce the risk of bleeding compared with LDUH.
