Multicenter Study
Acute Care Surgery during the COVID-19 pandemic in Spain: Changes in volume, causes and complications. A multicentre retrospective cohort study.
during the COVID-19 pandemic, the number of Acute Care Surgery procedures performed in Spanish hospitals decreased significantly. The aim of this study was to compare Acute Care Surgery activity during the COVID-19 pandemic and during a control period. ⋯ during the COVID-19 pandemic, a significant reduction in the performance of Acute Care Surgery procedures was observed. Moreso, a longer time from symptoms onset to patient arrival at the Emergency Department was noted. Higher morbidity was observed in patients undergoing Acute Care Surgery during the pandemic period, although there was not any difference in mortality or reoperation rate.

Low anterior resection syndrome (LARS) in ovarian cancer patients - A multi-centre comparative cohort study.
Low anterior resection syndrome (LARS) is a common functional disorder after low anterior resection impacting the quality of life. Data on LARS derives nearly exclusively from rectal cancer studies. Therefore, the study was designed to assess LARS in advanced epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) patients, who underwent rectal resection and to compare it with a female rectal cancer cohort. ⋯ LARS is a frequent and highly underreported postoperative disorder in EOC patients who require cytoreductive surgery with rectal resection. The functional outcome is comparable to female patients with rectal cancer who underwent low anterior resection without receiving radiotherapy.

Laparoscopic hepatectomy versus open hepatectomy for hepatocellular carcinoma in 157 patients: A case controlled study with propensity score matching at two Chinese centres.
The aim of this study was to investigate the long-term outcomes and perioperative outcomes of laparoscopic hepatectomy (LH) versus open hepatectomy (OH) for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) between well-matched patient groups. ⋯ Laparoscopic hepatectomy is technically feasible and safe in selected patients. LH showed similar long-term outcomes, associated with less blood loss, shorter hospital stay, and fewer postoperative complications in selected patients with HCC compared with OH.

Surgical site infection following open reduction and internal fixation of a closed ankle fractures: A retrospective multicenter cohort study.
Identification of risk factors for surgical site infection (SSI) after surgical ankle fractures was important, but related evidence was inadequate. This study was conducted to investigate the incidence and risk factors for SSI after open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) of a closed ankle fractures. ⋯ After comprehensive evaluation of patients medical conditions, immediate operation by a surgeon with more expertise could effectively reduce SSI occurrence.

Total thyroidectomy versus thyroid lobectomy for papillary thyroid cancer: Comparative analysis after propensity score matching: A multicenter study.
In patients with papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC), the role of total thyroidectomy (TT) versus that of thyroid lobectomy (TL) has been controversial. ⋯ Equivalent prognoses were observed for patients with 1- to 5-cm stage cN0 and cM0 PTC tumors treated by TL or TT after propensity score matching. Adverse events occurred less frequently in patients who underwent TL than TT.
