Skin microvascular function in patients with type 1 diabetes: An observational study from the onset of diabetes.
The development of disturbances in skin microcirculation in type 1 diabetes is not well characterised. We assessed skin microcirculation longitudinally from the onset of diabetes up to 29 years of duration to investigate when such disturbances start. ⋯ Functional disturbances in total skin microcirculation were observed after seven years in patients with type 1 diabetes and preceded diabetic complications such as retinopathy.

To characterize copeptin levels and to explore its prognostic importance in patients with acute myocardial infarction with newly detected glucose abnormalities. ⋯ Copeptin levels are highest among acute myocardial infarction patients with glucose disturbances and predict an adverse prognosis in unadjusted analyses. These findings imply that raised copeptin reflects stress rather than acting as a pathogenic factor for glucose abnormalities.

Diabetic peripheral neuropathic pain is a stronger predictor of depression than other diabetic complications and comorbidities.
To investigate the independent effect on depression of painless diabetic polyneuropathy, painful diabetic polyneuropathy, and general and diabetes-related comorbidities. ⋯ Painful diabetic polyneuropathy is a greater determinant of depression than other diabetes-related complications and comorbidities. Painful symptoms enhance depression severity more than objective insensitivity.

To evaluate additional role of left atrial two-dimensional speckle tracking echocardiography in patients with diabetes mellitus type 2, 218 patients with heart failure with preserved left ventricular ejection fraction divided according to the presence of diabetes mellitus (108 with and 110 without) were enrolled in the study. ⋯ Two-dimensional speckle tracking echocardiography appeared as a useful additional tool for detection of left atrial dysfunction in patients with heart failure who have preserved left ventricular ejection fraction and diabetes mellitus who are especially prone to develop cardiovascular complications.
