Pelvic fractures in children and adolescents in polytrauma and high-energy injuries.
This paper is a retrospective analysis of the treatment of pelvic fractures in children and adolescents who sustained polytrauma and high-energy injuries. Incidence varies from 0.2% to 7.5% of all pediatric injuries. Most often, these are isolated stable fractures that do not require hospitalization. However, a group of unstable fractures requiring surgical intervention remains. ⋯ 1. Torode and Zieg type I to III pelvic fractures in children do not usually require surgical treatment. 2. To rode and Zieg type IV unstable fractures require operative treatment in order to avoid complications and aid faster recovery.

Guided-growth implants in the treatment of early onset scoliosis. A pilot study.
The aim of treating children with early onset scoliosis is to guide the growth of the spine until the patients reach skeletal maturity. Regardless of its aetiology, progressive early-onset scoliosis requires multiple-stage surgery, usually at 6 to 12 months' intervals. However, precise coordination of the timing of each consecutive surgical procedure with the child's growth pattern is difficult, and the risk of complications that require additional surgery should be taken into account. The aim of this study is to present a new surgical method of treating early onset scoliosis which consists in a single-stage insertion of special implants that enable three-plane correction of spinal deformities, allows the spine to continue growing, does not require multi-stage surgical distractions, and ends after the growth period with a conventional spinal fusion. The results of this pilot study were obtained in a homogeneous group of patients treated identically by insertion of original implants guiding spinal growth. ⋯ 1. The surgical method described by us provides for very good correction in the first stage of treatment. 2. The maintenance of the correction does not require the use of corrective braces or any indirect multi-stage surgical procedures. 3. The probability of complications during the insertion of the implants is not higher than that seen with conventional multi-stage treatment.

Postural habits of young adults and possibilities of modification.
The aim of the study was to assess postural habits in young, healthy people, identify correlations between postural errors and pain and attempt to modify bad habits. ⋯ 1. Non-ergonomic postural behaviours are common among young people. 2. Changing the body position does not eliminate the impact of the inappropriate habit. 3. An attempt to modify non-ergonomic postural behaviours usually results in pain, which may act as a demotivating factor. 4. Discomfort associated with the modification of habitual postural behaviours is reduced after 3-4 months of regular training.
