Sevoflurane exposure in 7-day-old rats affects neurogenesis, neurodegeneration and neurocognitive function.
Sevoflurane is widely used in pediatric anesthesia and former studies showed that it causes neurodegeneration in the developing brain. The present study was carried out to investigate the effects of sevoflurane on neurogenesis, neurodegeneration and behavior. ⋯ Sevoflurane reduces neurogenesis and increases the death of progenitor cells in developing brain. This might mediate the late-onset neurocognitive outcome after sevoflurane application.

Sulforaphane protects primary cultures of cortical neurons against injury induced by oxygen-glucose deprivation/reoxygenation via antiapoptosis.
To determine whether sulforaphane (SFN) protects neurons against injury caused by oxygen-glucose deprivation/reoxygenation (OGD/R) and, if so, to investigate the possible mechanisms. ⋯ SFN protects neurons against injury from OGD/R and this effect may be partly associated with an antiapoptosis pathway.

ReviewDiffusion magnetic resonance imaging for Brainnetome: a critical review.
Increasing evidence shows that the human brain is a highly self-organized system that shows attributes of small-worldness, hierarchy and modularity. The "connectome" was conceived several years ago to identify the underpinning physical connectivities of brain networks. The need for an integration of multi-spatial and -temporal approaches is becoming apparent. ⋯ Diffusion magnetic resonance imaging (dMRI) is a non-invasive way to study the anatomy of brain networks. Here, we review the principles of dMRI, its methodologies, and some of its clinical applications for the Brainnetome. Future research in this field is discussed.

ReviewA review of functional magnetic resonance imaging for Brainnetome.
The functional brain network using blood-oxygen-level-dependent (BOLD) functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) has revealed the potentials for probing brain architecture, as well as for identifying clinical biomarkers for brain diseases. In the general context of Brainnetome, this review focuses on the development of approaches for modeling and analyzing functional brain networks with BOLD fMRI. The prospects for these approaches are also discussed.

Tetrahydropalmatine protects against methamphetamine-induced spatial learning and memory impairment in mice.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of methamphetamine (MA) on spatial learning and memory and the role of tetrahydropalmatine (THP) in MA-induced changes in these phenomena in mice. ⋯ Repeated MA administration impairs spatial learning and memory in mice, and its co-administration with THP prevents this impairment, which is probably attributable to changed ERK1/2 expression in the PFC. This study contributes to uncovering the mechanism underlying MA abuse, and to exploring potential therapies.
