Practice Guideline GuidelineACOG technical bulletin. Obstetric analgesia and anesthesia. Number 225--July 1996 (replaces No. 112, January 1988). Committee on Technical Bulletins of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.
Many agents and techniques are available for analgesia and anesthesia in obstetric patients. The choice of technique, agent, and dosage is based on numerous factors, including patient preference, medical status, and contraindications. Decisions regarding anesthesia should be closely coordinated among the obstetrician, the anesthesiologist, the patient, and skilled support personnel.
