One-stage Debridement via Oblique Lateral Interbody Fusion Corridor Combined with Posterior Pedicle Screw Fixation in Treating Spontaneous Lumbar Infectious Spondylodiscitis: A Case Series.
Surgery is indicated when antibiotic treatment fails in pyogenic spondylodiscitis, which is caused by pathogens such as the Staphylococcus species. The aim of the present study was to investigate the efficacy and safety of the oblique lateral interbody fusion (OLIF) corridor approach combined with posterior pedicle screw fixation for treating pyogenic spondylodiscitis. ⋯ One-stage debridement with autogenous iliac bone graft through the OLIF corridor combined with posterior pedicle screw fixation is effective and safe for single-level spontaneous lumbar pyogenic spondylodiscitis after antibiotic treatment fails.

Challenging Surgical Treatment of Displaced Articular Tibial Plateau Fractures: Do Early Knee Radiographic Features Have a Predictive Value of the Mid-Term Clinical Functional Outcomes?
To evaluate mid-term radiographic and functional outcomes of tibial plateau fracture (TPF) patients treated with the open reduction internal fixation (ORIF) technique and to find predictive factors of clinical outcomes. ⋯ The present study demonstrates that early radiographic features may be predictive for pain perceived by patients at mid-term follow-up.

Short-term Preoperative Denosumab With Surgery in Unresectable or Recurrent Giant Cell Tumor of Bone.
The purpose of this retrospective study was to evaluate the clinical and oncological results of combination treatment of short-term preoperative denosumab (the receptor activator of nuclear factor kappa-B ligand inhibitor) with surgery in unresectable or recurrent cases of giant cell tumor of the bone (GCTB). ⋯ For the unresectable or recurrent GCTB cases, short-term (six doses) preoperative use of denosumab improved clinical symptoms, decreased the tumor size, and increased the tumor density. The changes in tumors, in turn, simplified the tumor removal manipulation and, subsequently, decreased the local recurrence for the resection surgery. For the curettage, the denosumab-induced changes had mixed impacts, and shorter term (fewer than six doses) usage may be more appropriate. Our six-dose regime was deemed safe, while the safety of long-term use remains unknown.

Management of Low-Energy Basicervical Proximal Femoral Fractures by Proximal Femoral Nail Anti-Rotation.
To evaluate clinical and radiological outcomes of proximal femoral nail anti-rotation (PFNA-II) devices and demonstrate the effectiveness of PFNA-II for the treatment of basicervical fractures in elderly patients. ⋯ Based on the clinical and radiological outcomes, the PFNA-II devices provide strong rotational stability and excellent clinical prognosis, and are an appropriate treatment option for basicervical proximal femoral fracture in elderly patients.

ReviewDemineralized Bone Matrix Carriers and their Clinical Applications: An Overview.
Reconstruction of massive bone defects is challenging for orthopaedic clinicians, especially in cases of severe trauma and resection of tumors in various locales. Autologous iliac crest bone graft (ICBG) is the "gold standard" for bone grafting. However, the limited availability and complications at donor sites resulted in seeking other options like allografts and bone graft substitutes. ⋯ The present review aims to summarize the properties of various kind of viscous carriers and their clinical use combined with DBM in commercially available products. Given DBM'mercially available products. Given DBM;s long clinical track record and commercial accessibility in standard forms, opportunities to further develop and validate DBM as a versatile bone biomaterial in orthopaedic repair and regenerative medicine contexts are attractive.
