Multicenter StudySARS-CoV-2-related mortality and treatment delays for cancer patients in Austria : Findings of a multicentric nationwide study.
Cancer patients infected with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus type 2 (SARS-CoV-2) have an increased risk of mortality. Here, we investigated predictive factors for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) associated mortality in patients with neoplastic diseases treated throughout Austria. ⋯ Mortality of Austrian cancer patients infected with SARS-CoV‑2 is comparable to that of other countries. Furthermore, risk factors associated with higher mortality were evident and similar to the general population. Treatment delays were frequently observed.

Multicenter StudyPsychocardiological assessment in the acute phase of the takotsubo syndrome : Somatic and depressive disorders, resilience and illness perception.
To analyze the psychocardiological profile and the clinical characteristics in the acute phase of takotsubo syndrome (TTS). ⋯ Moderate to low resilience scores and moderate to high levels of illness threatening can be seen in the acute phase of TTS, reflecting the severity of the experience as an adverse life event. Patients suffering from TTS present in the acute phase with a high prevalence of somatic disorders and relatively high prevalence of depressive disorders.

Multicenter StudyUnderweight but not overweight is associated with excess mortality in septic ICU patients.
Higher survival has been shown for overweight septic patients compared with normal or underweight patients in the past. This study aimed at investigating the management and outcome of septic ICU patients in different body mass index (BMI) categories in a large multicenter database. ⋯ In this cohort, underweight was associated with a worse outcome, whereas obese patients evidenced lower mortality. Our analysis thus supports the thesis of the obesity paradox.

Multicenter Study Observational StudyManagement of hospitalized influenza A patients during the season 2018/19 : Comparison of three medical departments and the effect on outcome and antibiotic usage.
Diagnosis and treatment of influenza patients are often provided across several medical specialties. We compared patient outcomes at an infectious diseases (ID), a rheumatology (Rheu) and a pulmonology (Pul) department. ⋯ We detected differences in oseltamivir usage, length of in-hospital stay and antibiotic choices for pneumonia. Influenza-associated mortality was unaffected by specialty.

Multicenter StudyChanges in characteristics and outcomes of critically ill COVID-19 patients in Tyrol (Austria) over 1 year.
Widely varying mortality rates of critically ill Coronavirus disease 19 (COVID-19) patients in the world highlighted the need for local surveillance of baseline characteristics, treatment strategies and outcome. We compared two periods of the COVID-19 pandemic to identify important differences in characteristics and therapeutic measures and their influence on the outcome of critically ill COVID-19 patients. ⋯ Advanced treatment strategies and learning effects over time resulted in reduced rates of mechanical ventilation and vasopressor use in the second wave associated with shorter ICU length of stay. Despite these improvements, age appears to be a dominant factor for hospital mortality in critically ill COVID-19 patients.
