Multicenter StudyWork Ability Index predicts application for disability pension after work-related medical rehabilitation for chronic back pain.
To determine whether the Work Ability Index (WAI), a short 7-item self-report questionnaire addressing issues of perceived disability, impairment, and expectations for resuming work, predicts application for disability pension, recommendations for further treatment, and other adverse work-related criteria in patients with chronic back pain after rehabilitation. ⋯ The WAI could help rehabilitation professionals identify patients with back pain with a high risk of a subsequent application for disability pension.

Association between disease-specific quality of life and magnetic resonance imaging outcomes in a clinical trial of prolotherapy for knee osteoarthritis.
To assess the relation between knee osteoarthritis (KOA)-specific quality of life (QOL) and intra-articular cartilage volume (CV) in participants treated with prolotherapy. KOA is characterized by CV loss and multifactorial pain. Prolotherapy is an injection therapy reported to improve KOA-related QOL to a greater extent than blinded saline injections and at-home exercise, but its mechanism of action is unclear. ⋯ Prolotherapy resulted in safe, substantial improvement in KOA-specific QOL compared with control over 52 weeks. Among prolotherapy participants, but not controls, magnetic resonance imaging-assessed CV change (CV stability) predicted pain severity score change, suggesting that prolotherapy may have a pain-specific disease-modifying effect. Further research is warranted.

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative StudyMuscle energy technique versus corticosteroid injection for management of chronic lateral epicondylitis: randomized controlled trial with 1-year follow-up.
To determine the short- and long-term effectiveness of the muscle energy technique (MET) compared with corticosteroid injections (CSIs) for chronic lateral epicondylitis (LE). ⋯ This study showed that while both MET and CSI improved measures of strength, pain, and function compared with baseline, subjects receiving MET had better scores at 52 weeks for PFGS and the VAS for pain. We conclude that MET appears to be an effective intervention in the treatment of LE.

Multicenter StudyThe six-minute walk test cannot predict peak cardiopulmonary fitness in ambulatory adolescents and young adults with cerebral palsy.
To determine whether the 6-minute walk test (6MWT) is predictive of peak oxygen consumption (Vo(2)peak) and whether the 6MWT is a clinically applicable alternative to cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPET) in ambulatory adolescents and young adults with cerebral palsy (CP). ⋯ The 6MWT is poorly related to Vo(2)peak in ambulatory adolescents and young adults with CP. Because of a high SEE, the multiple regression model did not allow for prediction of Vo(2)peak from the 6MWT in ambulatory adolescents and young adults with CP.

Upper-extremity and mobility subdomains from the Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System (PROMIS) adult physical functioning item bank.
To create upper-extremity and mobility subdomain scores from the Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System (PROMIS) physical functioning adult item bank. ⋯ Upper-extremity and mobility subdomains shared about 35% of the variance in common, and produced comparable scores whether calibrated separately or together. The identification of the subset of items tapping these 2 aspects of physical functioning and scored using the existing PROMIS parameters provides the option of scoring these subdomains in addition to the overall physical functioning score.
