Review Meta AnalysisA systematic review of the correlation between serum asymmetric dimethylarginine, carotid atherosclerosis and ischemic stroke.
To investigate the correlation between serum asymmetric dimethylarginine (ADMA) and the risk of ischaemic stroke and carotid atherosclerosis in adults. ⋯ The serum ADMA may be related to ischaemic stroke, and it is a risk factor for carotid atherosclerosis.

Review Meta AnalysisCirculating serum and plasma levels of micro-RNA in type-1 diabetes in children and adolescents: a systematic review and meta-analysis.
Type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) is a complex metabolic disorder characterized by hyperglycaemia, with constantly increasing incidence in paediatric population. The discovery of new molecules, such as microRNAs, and their possible interactions with T1DM create novel aspects in the diagnosis of the disease. ⋯ A total of three micro-RNA molecules appeared to have a significantly different expression in T1DM patients, serving as a possible diagnostic panel of biomarkers. These findings may contribute as reference for future research to further support the use of microRNAs as a novel diagnostic tool in T1DM.

Review Meta AnalysisCovid-19 (SARS-CoV-2) infection and thrombotic conditions: A systematic review and meta-analysis.
COVID-19 is an infectious disease caused by SARS-CoV-2 associated with haematological manifestations (thrombolytic events). ⋯ Patients older than 60 years, with hypertension, diabetes and D-Dimer values above 3.17 µg/mL, can be considered prognostic factors for developing thrombotic events due to COVID-19.

Review Meta AnalysisGlucocorticoids for Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome: a systematic review with meta-analysis and trial sequential analysis.
Glucocorticoids are some of the most commonly used drugs for patients with acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). However, the curative effect and side effects of glucocorticoids in treating patients with ARDS remain controversial. ⋯ Longer- and lower-dose glucocorticoid treatment may improve the prognosis of ARDS patients, but RCTs with higher quality and larger sample sizes are needed to further clarify the clinical effects of glucocorticoids on ARDS.

Review Meta AnalysisEffects of hypertension on cancer survival: A meta-analysis.
Hypertension is usually associated with increased cardiovascular mortality. Uncertainty exists about the possible role of hypertension as a poor prognostic factor for cancer-specific mortality (CSM). To assess the association between pre-existing hypertension and the risk of mortality and relapse after a diagnosis of cancer, we performed a systematic review and meta-analysis of published studies. ⋯ Among cancer patients, those with pre-existing hypertension have a poorer outcome, probably due to multifactorial reasons. Adequate control of lifestyle, more intensive follow-ups, monitoring for hypertension- and anticancer-related cardiovascular complications, and establishing multidisciplinary cardio-oncology units can be useful measures for reducing mortality and improving care in this setting.
