Feasibility and rationale of direct current cardioversion immediately after transcatheter percutaneous edge-to-edge mitral valve repair.
Atrial fibrillation (AF) is a frequent comorbidity among patients with severe mitral regurgitation (MR). Direct current (DC) cardioversion is one of the strategies for rhythm control. However, the safety and feasibility of immediate DC cardioversion after MitraClip are not elucidated. ⋯ Direct current cardioversion seemed to be safe and feasible immediately after the transcatheter edge-to-edge mitral valve repairs. Subjects who maintain SR experienced better functional improvement.

How should our testing behaviour change with time in children in current COVID-19 pandemic?
More paediatric-confirmed cases have been reported with the global pandemic of COVID-19. This study aims to summarize the key points and supply suggestions on screening paediatric COVID-19 patients more appropriately. ⋯ Children with a history of close contact with confirmed cases, manifested as cough and fever should be paid more attention to after excluding infection of other common pathogens. Atypical symptoms should not be over-emphasized in screening paediatric COVID-19. More studies are needed for guiding efficient recognition in paediatric COVID-19.

Observational StudyHemodynamics of an Iatrogenic Atrial Septal Defect (IASD) after MitraClip Implantation.
The MitraClip procedure requires transseptal access of the left atrium with a 24F guiding sheath. We evaluated invasively whether a MitraClip induced iatrogenic atrial septal defect (IASD) leads to development of a relevant interatrial shunt and right ventricular overload. ⋯ Our data show that the MitraClip procedure does not induce a relevant interatrial shunt or right ventricular overload. In fact, future studies will have to show whether the IASD may even be beneficial in selected patient populations by left atrial volume and pressure relief.

The role of resistin and myeloperoxidase in severe sepsis and septic shock: results from the ALBIOS trial.
Inflammatory biomarkers are useful in detecting patients with sepsis. The prognostic role of resistin and myeloperoxidase (MPO) has been investigated in sepsis. ⋯ High levels of MPO, but not of resistin, on day 1 were able to predict 90-day mortality. These findings may either suggest that early hyper-activation of neutrophils is detrimental in patients with sepsis or reflect the burden of the inflammatory process caused by sepsis. Further studies are warranted to deepen these aspects (ALBIOS ClinicalTrials.gov Identifier: NCT00707122).
