Meta AnalysisFeatures of severe COVID-19: A systematic review and meta-analysis.
To systematically review clinical and biochemical characteristics associated with the severity of the novel severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2)-related disease (COVID-19). ⋯ Characteristics associated with the severity of SARS-CoV-2 infection may allow an early identification and management of patients with poor outcomes.

Meta AnalysisTracing open data in emergencies: the case of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic constitutes an ongoing, burning Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC). In 2015, the World Health Organization adopted an open data policy recommendation in such situations. ⋯ Even though a large number of manuscripts was produced since the pandemic, availability of open data remains restricted.

Meta AnalysisAssociation between Helicobacter pylori infection and Guillain-Barré Syndrome: A meta-analysis.
Helicobacter pylori (H pylori) is a Gram-negative bacterium, considered to trigger autoimmune gastrointestinal disorders. This pathogen has also been linked to the autoimmune sequelae in extra-gastrointestinal diseases and peripheral neuropathies. Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS) is a serious autoimmune demyelinating disorder of peripheral nerves, usually with a post-infectious onset. About 30% of cases of GBS attributed to by Campylobacter jejuni, so, H pylori, could be also involved. Growing evidence suggests the likely involvement of H pylori infection in the development of GBS. The aim of the current study was to therefore estimate the prevalence of H pylori antibodies in GBS. ⋯ The present meta-analysis showed a strong association between GBS and the presence of H pylori antibodies, especially in CSF, thereby suggesting a role of H pylori infection in the pathophysiology of GBS.

Meta AnalysisCarotid intima-media thickness predicts carotid plaque development: Meta-analysis of seven studies involving 9341 participants.
Carotid intima-media thickness and carotid plaque are well-established imaging markers used to capture different stages of the atherosclerotic disease process. We aimed to quantify to which extent carotid intima-media thickness predicts incidence of first-ever carotid plaque. ⋯ In general population studies, elevated baseline carotid intima-media thickness is associated with incidence of carotid plaque in individuals free of carotid plaque at baseline.

Review Meta AnalysisGenetic variations in MicroRNA genes and cancer risk: A field synopsis and meta-analysis.
Cancer risk has been associated with certain gene variations in microRNA (miRNA), but conflicting evidence warrants re-assessing of significant results in meta-analyses. We summarized published meta-analyses that assess the associations between miRNA polymorphism and cancers to show the validity of the findings. ⋯ Out of 68 published associations of miRNA polymorphisms with cancer, sixteen have shown noteworthiness in our re-assessing meta-analysis. Our findings summarize the results of meta-analyses on the association of cancer with SNPs and underline the importance of interpreting results with caution.
