Randomized Controlled TrialAcetylsalicylic acid in critically ill patients: a cross-sectional and a randomized trial.
Despite decades of clinical use, the pharmacokinetics and the effects of acetylsalicylic acid (ASA) in critically ill patients remain ill-defined. We aimed to investigate the pharmacokinetics and the effects of different ASA formulations during critical illness. ⋯ There is a very high prevalence of HTPR in critically ill patients on peroral ASA therapy, caused by an incomplete suppression of TXB2 and/or by impaired absorption of ASA.

Randomized Controlled TrialSerum phosphate is related to adiposity in healthy adults.
Inorganic phosphate is a crucial component of cellular energy metabolism. We have identified an inverse relationship between serum phosphate concentration and fat mass in a cohort of healthy men. This study reports those data and determines whether this association is present in two female populations. ⋯ Serum phosphate is inversely associated with measures of adiposity in both women and men, largely independently of PTH. FGF23 might mediate these associations. This relationship may be an unrecognized confounder in some of the correlates of serum phosphate already described.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter StudyObserved survival benefit of mild therapeutic hypothermia reanalysing the Circulation Improving Resuscitation Care trial.
Mild therapeutic hypothermia is argued being beneficial for outcome after cardiac arrest. ⋯ Mild therapeutic hypothermia initiated out of hospital and/or in hospital was associated with improved survival within this secondary analysis of the CIRC cohort compared to no therapeutic hypothermia.

Multicenter StudyMediterranean diet decreases adolescent waist circumference.
To explore the effects of a multicomponent-multilevel school-based educational intervention on the nutritional habits and abdominal obesity indices of a representative adolescent sample. ⋯ Increased adherence to MD was associated with decreased WC, indicating a potential of multicomponent-multilevel school-based interventions to combat adolescent abdominal obesity.
