Correlation of platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio and neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio with thrombolysis in myocardial infarction frame count in ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction.
Impaired coronary artery reflow after primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PPCI) in patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction has been associated with postintervention adverse effects. Thus, finding an easily achievable index would be of great value to predict no-reflow phenomenon. In this regard, platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR) and neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) have been introduced. In this study, we aimed to investigate correlation of PLR and NLR with thrombolysis in myocardial infarction (TIMI) frame count. ⋯ PLR and NLR are two easily calculated and efficient indexes for predicting the no-reflow phenomenon in patients with STEMI undergoing PPCI. Therefore, they might be employed in accurate risk stratification when a patient is a candidate for PPCI and in accurately referring patients who would benefit greatly from PPCI.

Nutrient patterns and their relationship with general and central obesity in US adults.
Despite growing evidence on the associations between nutrient patterns and obesity, very few studies have examined the association between patterns of nutrient intake and obesity. ⋯ Nutrient patterns may have deleterious or protective effects on the risk of general and central obesity, with implication for food-based strategies to prevent and control obesity. Multicenter StudyStudy of the anti-JCV antibody levels in a Spanish multiple sclerosis cohort.
One of the risk factor to develop progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy (PML) among natalizumab-treated patients is the presence and high levels of anti-JCV antibodies. Our purpose was to test the association of different clinical and demographic variables with the presence and levels of anti-JCV antibodies in a Spanish cohort of patients with multiple sclerosis (MS) during natalizumab treatment. ⋯ Old age and HLA-DRB1*15:01 were the factors that influence positively and negatively, respectively, our anti-JCV antibody prevalence, although our both PML cases were HLA-DRB1*15:01carriers. Most of our patients showed a stable anti-JCV antibody index values during natalizumab treatment.

Prognostic implications of epicardial fat volume quantification in acute pericarditis.
The pathophysiology of acute pericarditis remains largely unknown, and biomarkers are needed to identify patients susceptible to complications. As adipose tissue has a pivotal role in cardiovascular disease pathogenesis, we hypothesized that quantification of epicardial fat volume (EFV) provides prognostic information in patients with acute pericarditis. ⋯ We report for the first time a significant association of EFV with the clinical features and the outcome of patients with acute pericarditis. Measurement of EFV by CT may have important prognostic implications in these patients.

Review Meta AnalysisEffect of statins on serum vitamin D concentrations: a systematic review and meta-analysis.
We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to assess the effects of statin therapy on serum vitamin D concentrations. ⋯ This meta-analysis was inconclusive on the effects of statins on vitamin D, with conflicting directions of the effects from interventional and observational studies. The suggested favourable effects from RCTs need to be confirmed in larger studies with extended follow-up in order to determine the possible health benefits.
