Elevated red blood cell distribution width (RDW) may correlate with a worse prognosis in pulmonary hypertension (PH), though results to date are inconsistent. The goal of this study is to detect the impact of RDW on the prognosis of PH. PubMed and EMBASE databases were searched from their inception to July 22, 2019 for relevant publications reporting the relationship between RDW and the prognosis of PH. ⋯ Further analysis indicated that the prognostic value of RDW was influenced by patient age (>44 years: HR = 1.34, 95%CI 1.17-1.55; ≤44 years: HR = 1.20, 95%CI 0.90-1.58) and follow-up (<3 years, HR = 1.36, 95%CI 0.53-3.47; ≥3 years, HR = 1.29, 95%CI 1.14-1.45). RDW provides important prognostic information for PH patients, and this measure may be used to optimize patient management and guide clinical treatment. PROSPERO registration number: CRD42019122636.

We conducted this meta-analysis to analyze the effectiveness of balance training in improving postoperative rehabilitation outcomes in hip fracture surgery patients. ⋯ According to the present meta-analysis, balance training improves one's independence in activities of daily living, performance tasks, lower limb strength, gait, and total physical function compared with no balance training. More high-quality RCTs with large sample sizes are required for the identification of the best balance training program after hip fracture.

Effect of acupuncture on hormone level in patients with gastrointestinal dysfunction after general anesthesia: A study protocol for a randomized controlled trial.
Postoperative gastrointestinal dysfunction (PGD) refers to one of the common postoperative complications. Acupuncture can facilitate the recovery of PGD, whereas no therapeutic schedule of acupuncture has been internationally recognized for treating PGD. In the present study, a scientific trial protocol has been proposed to verify the feasibility of acupuncture in treating gastrointestinal dysfunction after laparoscopic cholecystectomy under general anesthesia. We conduct this protocol to investigate whether acupuncture recovery gastrointestinal dysfunction by influencing the expression of gastrointestinal hormone. ⋯ A standardized and scientific clinical trial is conducted to assess the efficacy and safety of acupuncture for gastrointestinal dysfunction after laparoscopic cholecystectomy under general anesthesia. The aim is to objectively evidence and improves the clinical practice of acupoint prescription, as an attempt to promote the clinical application of this technology.

Review Case Reports
A case report of empty Sella syndrome secondary to Hantaan virus infection and review of the literature.
Bleeding in the anterior pituitary lobe leading to tissue necrosis occurs in the acute stage of severe clinical forms of hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome (HFRS), while atrophy of the anterior pituitary lobe with diminution of the gland function occurs after the recovery stage. The relationship between Hantaan virus infection and empty Sella syndrome (ESS) has rarely been reported. ⋯ Pituitary function examination and brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) need to be considered to scan for ESS and panhypopituitarism in the patients with HFRS accompanied by diabetes insipidus.

Evaluation of proprioception and postural control at a minimum 1 year follow-up after ankle capsuloligamentous lateralplasty with Brostrom technique: A cohort study.
Recovery of postural control and proprioception in patients affected by chronic ankle instability (CAI) and operated on capsulo-ligaments reconstructive surgery lacks of objective assessment. The aim of this study was to evaluate long-term post-surgical postural and proprioceptive control through the DPPS device in a cohort of patients operated on ligaments reconstruction through the modified Brostrom procedure at a minimum follow up of 12 months. Eleven patients with post-traumatic lateral CAI, operated of external capsulo-ligamentous complex repair according to Brostrom technique at a minimum follow-up of 1 year were enrolled. ⋯ Mean Dynamic Stability Index (DSI) without restrictions was 56.2% (±14.6) in the operated leg and 56.8% (±10.6) in the contra-lateral. DSI with restricted upper limbs, had a mean value of 56.3% (±11.4) in the operated leg and 58.1% (±11.9) in the contra-lateral. Re-tensioning capsular-ligamentous surgery of the external compartment for CAI allow to recovery proprioceptive and postural control on the operated side, comparable with data from the contralateral limb and from the healthy population of the same age and sex.
