Application of 3D printing technology combined with PBL teaching method in clinical teaching of cerebrovascular disease: An observational study.
Traditional clinical teaching does not allow medical students to combine theoretical knowledge with practical knowledge. As such, we aimed to determine the effectiveness of three dimensional (3D) printing technology combined with problem-based learning (PBL) in the clinical teaching of cerebrovascular diseases. Medical interns were randomly divided into an experimental group (n = 136) that was taught using 3D printing technology + PBL method and a control group (n = 133) that was taught using traditional methods. ⋯ The survey assessing the evaluation of teaching methods showed higher satisfaction with teaching methods, increased learning interest, and improvement in the spatial thinking ability of interns in the experimental group compared to the control group (P < .05). There was no significant difference when assessing which teaching method better improved the interns' understanding of cerebrovascular diseases (P < .05). The application of 3D printing technology combined with the PBL teaching method in neurosurgery clinical teaching can stimulate interest in learning and significantly improve academic performance and problem-analysis and solving skills.

The efficacy of the whole-body vibration (WBV) training for patients with patellofemoral pain (PFP) remains controversial. For this reason, we applied a meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) to evaluate the efficacy of WBV training in patients with PFP. ⋯ Compared to the sole performance of exercise, WBV training in combination with exercise showed better pain reduction, but no superior improvement in function and on quality of life.

This study summarized and analyzed the prognostic value of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) for delayed neurologic sequelae (DNS) caused by carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning. ⋯ Based on current evidence, MRI may be useful in determining DNS caused by acute CO poisoning.

Distigmine bromide is a cholinesterase (ChE) inhibitor used to treat dysuria due to a hypotonic bladder. We encountered a case of cholinergic crisis caused by distigmine bromide, which resulted in a rapid decrease in serum ChE levels, hypothermia, respiratory failure, and circulatory failure within a short period of time. ⋯ ChE levels and symptoms before onset may not be useful for the early detection and prevention of adverse effects of cholinergic crisis caused by distigmine bromide. In addition to known risks such as renal impairment and older age, constipation should be recognized and communicated as a risk factor.

Overbite control is a key factor in orthodontic treatment. In some cases, incisor intrusion is essential and could be an optimal strategy for overbite control. The aim of this article was to introduce a biomechanical system called the posterior miniscrew-assisted lever arm, which is innovative in using existing posterior miniscrews to intrude the upper incisors and to control anterior overbite while simultaneously retracting the anterior teeth. Its efficiency in incisor intrusion has been proved with 2 cases. ⋯ The posterior miniscrew-assisted lever arm is a valuable biomechanical system for intruding incisors and controlling anterior overbite.
